Fort Bend ISD Begins Budget Process With Concerns Over Revenues

With a wary eye on revenues and fewer new student enrollments than expected, the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees began the annual process of developing a budget for the district’s upcoming year.
Trustees held the first of what should be a series of budget workshop sessions prior to Monday’s regular board meeting. School administrators said they wanted to give the board a broad overview of the upcoming year.
“We are prepared to provide you with some very high level, preliminary information,” Superintendent Dr. Tim Jenney told trustees at the start of the workshop.
District Chief Operating Officer Mike Seale said one of the goals in the budget development process is to have a great deal of board input.
“One of our goals this year is to make sure we have plenty of board input very early in the process,” Seale told trustees. “This isn’t my budget; this isn’t the administration’s budget; it will become your budget.”
Trustees may have their work cut out for them, with Seale indicating that it could be a challenging year with limited new revenue. Those issues are not unique to Fort Bend ISD, Seale said, with districts all over the state facing a potential budget crunch. . . I wonder why the growth projects were so high prior to the RECORD bond election and now they are making this major adjustment?

Steve Smelley was so quick to throw out pay raises as an option to limit… Mike Seale should consider the fact that he may have problems filling positions across the board when we take into consideration the fact that in this economic environment, the peanuts that are tossed out to the employees of this district will just not be enough.

It seems like the foul smell eminating in Fort Bend County is not coming from the Blueridge Land fill it’s coming from 16403 Lexington Blvd. in Sugar Land. I am sure that as the budget process goes on that the pile will grow larger and taller.
This is very upsetting to me. Does this mean they are going to continue to raise our property taxes?
