FBISD Board Approves Tax Rate
By: Jamie Mock, FBN

The Fort Bend Independent School District has approved the 2010 tax rate at $1.34 per $100 of valuation. The rate is higher than last year’s $1.305, but less than the effective tax rate of $1.3693.

The effective tax rate is the rate needed to collect the same revenue as the prior year.
Jim Babb was the only board member to vote against the tax rate.

The maintenance and operations part of the tax rate remains the same, at $1.04 – the most the district can asses without going to the voters. The increase comes in the portion of the tax rate used to pay off debt...

See: http://www.fortbendstar.com/090110/n_SchoolDays.htm

Recent transportation concerns hit home too (remember the supt cut over $20 million from the transportation budget last year after running consecutive record budget deficits for 3 years while increasing our taxes over the same time period)...

-Plans are still in the works for the "Global Taj Mahal" ($30 million dollar duplicate museum, according to district insiders). This was a non-voter approved project...

Stay tuned for more....
