Chron: MHS/HHS Academies, In Missouri City, May Be Closed While Jenney/Board Promotes Duplicate "Global Taj Mahal"--click the link below for more--

UPDATE FROM THE CHRONICLE 5-7-09:

http://blogs.chron.com/fortbend/archives/2009/05/global_center_d.html

See: http://www.chron.com/disp/discuss.mpl/nb/fortbend/news/6411082.html#comments-head

"Cain, who seeks to unseat school board president Sonal Bhuchar, in his comment during a recent meeting, said the district's "global center" would be in direct competition with Houston Museum of Natural Science's project in Telfair which he believes would serve the community better at no tax implication to the residents. Even if the district would be able to build the "global center" with donated funds, Cain said, the cost of operating and maintaining the building would be a burden on local taxpayers." Chronicle

What they are saying (from area blogs):

As usual Mr. Zheng gets the story in all its unceremonial glory. I don't know anyone who could have said it better. It would be nice if every voter had a copy of this before they enter the ballot box Saturday, that's for sure.

Jenney is like a child throwing a fit that must have his toy.

This is the Jenny Gang Brick & Motar approach to educating our students and teachers. Buildings don't teach our childeren ---Educators DO. Put the money into distance learning, specialist, para professionals, then you will see all of our students being served and their scores will go up. Of course, The "Jenny GANG" wouldn't have a building to brag about then. and wouldn't have to waste 100 millions dollars of your tax dollars while they are now 10 millions dollars in the red.

Absolutely no fiscal management, by the Board, or Dr. Jenny.Just a personal agenda.......FEED THE VENDORS!!!!!RIGHT JENNY.

I must say it was wonderful sitting at the c-club event and seeing Glover, Bhuchar and Jenney all sitting together real cozy like. I'm sure they will represent our interest on the school board. Nothing like a yes board to keep your taxes going up!

Well I'm cunfused. I called PBK and spoke with a nice little lady that was very familiar with the specs FBISD requested on the planetarium. They wanted one that was 100 ft. in diameter. Then I looked it up in Google. Currently the largest Planetarium in the world is 98 ft. in diameter. Are they still teaching math? Did I miss something. Isn't 100 ft. larger than 98 ft. If that's the size, then wouldn't that make it the largest one in the world? Jenney sounds like some politicians. It was smaller before it was bigger before it was smaller. Your taxes were bigger but now they are smaller and no they are not the biggest taxes in the world, in fact they are the smallest for the amenities you get here in FB, the greatest place in the universe to live. I bet Cain is right. Especially since Jenney has gone out of his way to insist 100 is smaller than 98. I'd like to be a fly on the wall at FBISD ground zero. You know the inside bunch is working overtime trying to swing things in their direction. We need to all pitch in and help these two guys. I think for once we actually have some good people running for office.

'The ear-jarring word "sales" elicited a response from Bhuchar, who said she was not supposed to respond to Hentschel's comment and nevertheless admonished Hentschel to use the correct term in referring to the committee when submitting a written FIOA request.' because that is exactly what it is, a 'sales committee'.

I've spoken to Zheng a couple of times after FBISD meetings. In response to fbisdparent, he doesn't always get the story right in all its glory. Maybe he's accurate this time (I wasn't at the meeting in question), but even in a blog I'd like a Chronicle writer to show a little less opinion and really let us voters draw our own conclusions. So what if teachers in the district use some language that is on the fbisd web site? I don't know enough about the proposed center to have a strong feeling for it one way or the other. But from what I've read, the propsective board members who are against it have yet to provide me legitimate reasons our children shouldn't have it other than its cost. And do any of us actually know yet how it would be funded?

Mr. Zheng, your power of observation as a reporter is impressive and the piece is very informative and balanced. Thanks for your work to empower the community.

To Trish -- Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

To huh? -- Thanks go to you as well for reading my blog and leaving your comment. In this post I was merely documenting what I saw and heard -- both support and opposition -- during those meetings as part of my job to be the ear and eye for the reader, without the injection of my personal opinions. I encourage all voters including you to exercise your right and cast your votes of heart -- for whoever you believe will make your community a better place.

Whether or not I'm balanced -- I appreciate any opinion you express here. But I will continue to do my job as a journalist.

I agree that, this time, it seems like we have candidates, Mr. Cain and Mr. Albright, running for the BOT that are actually committed to what a BOT member should represent. I am so sick and tired of the self serving, boot licking, rubbing stamping love fest that the current BOT has with the upper echelon administrators. Please no more elected followers; we need "real" leaders of accountability who actually lead with accountability and transparency,

I was working the polls today and although the traffic was light almost all were supporting Cain & Albright except for a few. I talked several voters into supporting them after showing them the materials on the budget deficit and increased spending the current board has been pushing.

If you can get the facts out to them, I think most voters will do what's right.
